PUBLIC RELEASE - v0.20.8 - DON'T LYX THAT!
The latest update has been released!
This week it's the return of Lyx! Plus a naughty scene with Emma, some new lines on the radio, a new kinetic text mechanic, a slight rework of the prologue to make one of the mysteries a little more obvious, a new piece of fan art and a bunch of bug fixes! I hope you enjoy! :)
CHANGELOG:
- LYX: You can now meet Lyx again (properly this time)! Once you've met Claire again, go to sleep and the Lyx event should trigger!
- LYX: You can now talk with Lyx whenever you want! After the event listed above, go to the West Hallway and call for her (you can only pick the "chat" option for now. More to come in the next update)!
- LYX: Lyx now has a paperdoll!
- EMMA: New naughty scene with Emma! Talk to her in her room and select 'let's be naughty'!
- EMMA: Moved her out of the guest room and back into her room from Act Two
- RADIO: Added a few new lines to the radio in the Manor living room
- GLYTCH: A new kinetic text mechanic! I've been wanting to do something like this for an age, but only just figured out a decent method. It's purely aesthetic, but has numerous lore implications... (look for text that flickers and changes)
- PROLOGUE: Tidied up the prologue a little bit, added some kinetic tags (including some "glytches") and prevented Pixie's paperdoll from sliding in and out all the time
- NAUGHTY: Tweaked the code a little bit so that randomised lines are repeated less often
- FAN ART: Added another piece of fan art to the EXTRAS gallery. Thanks, Hershey!
- Misc: Added a few new facial expressions to some of the paperdolls
- Bug: Fixed a bunch of graphical inconsistencies in the sleepover scenes. Pixie is still trying to eat her own hand, but it makes her happy so who am I to stand in the way of that?
- Bug: The location menu was remaining on-screen during Gwen's evening event. It disappears properly now
- Bug: Emma was sneaking into the kitchen for food even after publicly leaving her room. She's been told she doesn't need to sneak around stealing food any more
- Bug: Chloe, Gwen and Jessica were having time-travel flashes during their sleepover events. Now they'll remain in this space-time coordinate
- Bug: Gwen & Ami: Kid Detectives follow the trail of clues along with Recursive River and deep into the forest. The Techlight Trees glimmer and fizz around them, illuminating their path it fits and patches. But look out, kids! There's a Python in the trees!

the Clair hint can crash the game.
I can't seem to trigger Lyx. What am I doing wrong?
You trigger the first Lyx event by doing any location fight. You trigger the second Lyx event by getting Claire into your Manor.
I already did every available fight and Claire is in the Manor. And I still see no sign of that gobbo.
Has she appeared in the morning after you slept? You might have to just do a normal sleep, not sleep with someone.
If you've already woken up and found her there (twice), did you look for her around the manor?
Look for her where, exactly?
You need to go to different areas on the map, and find the option "Look for signs of Lyx" There will be several spots you need to go to
How do I trigger Emma's new naughty scene, because everytime I try to knock on her room she doesn't want to open it
You need to progress conquering districts until you get a random night visitor that ends up living with you.
After she arrives, visit Emma’s room during the afternoon a couple of times.
With all dialogues exhausted, Emma eventually comes out.

That's because you have to get the morning wake up scene twice, then follow the lead in your lead menu (the one about the leaf).

In this context, it means that Lyx has now a bunch of pictures that can be combined for her sprite in different positions or expressions.

Yeah, Claire's daddy issues kinda negate the need for any extra "correction" ;) Plus, MC doesn't want to mess around with her head in case (KIND:) it screws her up even more, or (CRUEL:) it makes her less useful as a hostage/bargaining chip.
I finished the game's earlier version. Is it possible to continue from my checkpoint?
Yes, all you need to do is download this version and launch it.

is it possible to raise your education level yet, ive been trying for like 20 minutes and its still at pretty low
Yes, all Act Two content is complete. Make sure you're not using your Powers, and that you've grabbed all the extra buffs that help build education and reduce its decay (eg. book from library, crystal from mysterious merchant, talk to Madison) :)

So I was bouncing around the manor trying to see all the radio messages and I noticed that the navigation bar doesn't give the visual indicator of your current location when you are in the Dungeon or at the Pool.
It's a known issue and should be fixed for the next update - thanks! :)

I'm... I'm only slightly worried about being bitten or exploded during the night. >_> But, frankly, sharing a bed with her or not doesn't significantly change the likelihood of either outcome. :P
Also, since she IS just living out in our yard, now, how about getting my girl Lily in on that wholesome sleeping action?
I'd be happy to bring Viola into the mix as well, but there's probably story reasons not to add her, yet. <_<
If you invited Lyx to spend the night, you'd probably wake up to find her mixing up gelignite on your chest...
Still, for you daredevils out there, I'll add her to the list ;) Along with Lily and Viola because hey, we don't want the girls to feel left out!
I would not be disappointed if I woke up to Lyx using my chest as a workstation for producing explosives. Terrified, but not disappointed. XD
The Ard awakening is still my absolute favorite, after all, so I definitely don't need an erotic wake-up call.
When Lyx "got out of her amazing disguise," I was hoping she would accidentally shed a few extra layers, as well. >_> *sigh*

Don't worry... she'll find you!
Actually, she won't. Visit places on the map that might have something to do with the clue. Found a blue flower? Check places with lots of plants. Found a school notebook? Check a place where those might be used. Just follow the clues around the map until they eventually (spoiled in the changelog itself...) lead you back to the manor. But you actually do have to follow the clues, you can't just skip and find her in the manor first. Because Lyx is testing your cognition, or something. Probably.
And no, I won't give the exact locations to visit. :P

It's impressive how you manage to not bloat the game into 5-10 gb behemoth. IIRC Ren'Py has very poor support (if any) for 3D models and everything we see are basically prerendered video and images. Are paperdolls an attempt to reuse assets within a game more?
I work really hard to try to keep the game below 2GB, both because I know many people have slow/capped connections and also because above 2GB the game stops being able to be installed on Android :P
Yes, the paperdolls were introduced so that I could create a lot more events without bloating the game out to an unusable size. I also compress all the renders down into .webp and encode the videos in .webm to try to save as much space as possible.
And thank you very much for doing that! It saves me from a lot of hassles.
Also, I never experience any lag when a scene is playing in CK, while other similar games frequently lags a lot, despite they're having similar looks as CK. Does your way of making the scene is any different from them, that it doesn't lag in my potato-powered PC?

I honestly couldn't say if my methods were different to other games without digging around in their code, but an advantage to encoding my video files in .webm is that the resulting file is so lightweight that it can run on pretty much anything without lag (provided the user has the necessary drivers updated).
I try to make sure that anyone, no matter their internet, device or rig, can play CK without issues. I don't always succeed, but I try ;)
Just so you know, I really appreciate your effort in that!
