PUBLIC RELEASE - v0.21.6a - KANA'S KOMA KWESTLINE KOMPLETED!

This week it's the Konclusion to the Kana Koma Kwestline! Also, some sweeping upgrades to character models and the time system, as well as a bunch of bugfixes! All the improvements are detailed below, but on a personal note please bear with me as things will be slightly janky for an update or two as I retroactively apply the improvements to all the characters. Until then you're going to see old and new paperdolls interacting and the time jumps may be for odd amounts. Rest assured all these things will be polished and tightened up as quickly as I can manage! I hope you enjoy! :)

CHANGELOG:

  • KANA: Kana's Koma Kwestline Kompleted! No spoilers here, but you can now gather the final ingredients Lyx needs, and see what happens... yes, this is the whole questline, no more cliffhangers! Did you leave Maven alive? If so, Kana may have some words for her...
  • MODELS: Character paperdolls have been upgraded! Now they blink, have different poses based on their emotions, and their lips move whilst their dialogue scrolls on the screen (and stop moving once the dialogue scroll ends)! This change only affects a few paperdolls right now, but more will be added in every update!
  • VOICE EFFECTS: All characters now have voice effects! These are your standard "bleepbloop" VN effects, not full voices, but they do change depending on the character's emotion!
  • TIME: The time system has been upgraded! Now there are FOUR timeslots instead of just three (Morning/Day/Evening/Night) and time is measured in hours and minutes!
  • CALENDAR: Days of the month and month names have been added! This will allow me to start introducing seasonal events like Hallowe'en, Christmas, and so on!
  • PREFERENCES: New volume sliders have been added for the Voice Effects and Clock sounds, in case you think they're too loud or just want to turn them off completely!
  • Bug: The Nexus lead was HUGE. Now it is little. Tremble at the power I wield
  • Bug: It was possible to redo the "meet Kana with Lyx" event and duplicate old leads. Now it isn't, and all duplicate leads should be erased on loading in
  • Bug: Lucille's climax image was broken. That's one hell of a climax!
  • Bug: MC was calling Lily "Jessica" in one scene. Embarrassing!
  • Bug: You could summon Veronica and Madison at night in the college. Now they're allowed to get their beauty sleep!
  • Bug: Fixed text appearing over Pixie's "laptop scene" in Act One if you chose to stop looking
  • Bug: The "sound volume" bar in preferences now actually affects sound effects
  • Bug: You could call Jessica to practice combat at night. Let the poor woman sleep!
  • Bug: Gwen & Ami: Kid Detectives look at the Typo Hero questioningly. "So you vanquish typos, or you're a hero of typos?". Typo Hero sheathes his blade and smiles "Watn to cmoe an cee?"

How do i get to the shops for the hydrochloric acid? ive done every area, but anything past the bridge is locked and i cant access it?

Love the game i just also agree the waiting for the clock to tick to the correct time is anoying i wish it just instantly went there and the clock time changed like thoes old clocks where it just Ticks down to the correct number instantly

I love the effort you put in, but I do have one complaint, the sound for every minute and hour on the clock can get a bit annoying at times, the text is fine. I guess that's why you included the option to disable them in settings. (forgot to include that in the original comment)

hey do old saves work with this game beause i havent played since Vr 0.19.5 like am i going to be missing out on things that were changed early into the game is it recommended to start over?

So, lyx made the potion and the lead tells me to go heal Kana but when I go visit Kana I can't heal her? Only head pat, hold hands, or watch?

I'm not sure I'm liking the clock moving fast. Takes up more time than I'd like to admit.

i think Jessica wants to get 110% of my attention when she explains to me how the war stuff works, not that i want to complain about it 

I got some kind of dev testing screen when I booted up the game. I'm not sure if you meant to leave it there or if I got it through some kinda magical ritual but it is pretty interesting to go through the options! I kinda hope you keep it in the future, maybe let people access it through the laptop.

Kana should be right where you left her.  On Annie's farm.  I'm guessing you may not actually be completely caught up, though, if you're asking that question.

i just got trough it... and... i see where this is going. and ill gladly be the vilain if that means proteccing that furball. and yes, some part of it was due to that amazing hook

Hey Arc, are you planning to add naughty scenes for characters introduced earlier like Madison, Veronica and of course Kana? It kinda feels weird to not be able to do anything other than just chat with them

Now that Kana's questline is done, it's headpats first and then naughty stuff ;)

Oh of course I agree that Kana should be given more time to recover before bonking. I just thought maybe in the case of Veronica, it could be seen as "We could die at any moment, so let's enjoy every time we have together for it could be our last"

Okay, I'll finish the quest, and then I need to restart and do the story from the start so I can enjoy the new animations. And there I was, planning on being productive in my fanfiction writing tomorrow. But, Kana is worth it. She must be hugged, be given headpats, be given time to spend with her daughter, and her mother... Really needs a stern talkin' to.

Well once again you brought tears to my eyes, I thought I'd be able to jump back in and face her without falling apart but it seems your narrative was once again just too much for me. So from the bottom of my heart thank you for saving Kana! I eagerly await the point where we can do the same for the others too!

Now as for the technical front: 

1. I encountered what I will affectionately term the "Bedbug" debug screen by opening my previous save which had been set in the bedroom. Upon pressing "back" I was unable to find any means of re-entering that screen (short of reloading that save). Not sure if I was supposed to be able to be there but some handsome person seems to have left the door open...

2. Said save file was also one of 3 that I had been messing around in with the Kana Quest "Lyx Loop" bug. This particular file had 2 instances of the "Get Ingredients" lead when it was made and both of those leads remained when I loaded in. Running through the lead twice from start to finish did manage to successfully clear them without any further funny business.

3. I feel it might be beneficial to certain players (myself included) to implement the ability to either skip (via left mouse click) or speed up the clock progression speed. It was quaint the first few times I saw it but quickly got to where it began to feel like it was cutting into the pacing/flow of gameplay. The way it is currently setup feels more like loading screens have been artificially added. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying that the new time system is bad or anything. It's just in its infancy and could use a little more polish before it shines. I believe that having each action take its own amount of time as opposed to everything costing the same will improve the sense of accomplishment at the end of each in-game day.


That about sums up my thoughts on this one. I've been toying with the idea of starting a new play through for a while now to see just how much some of the more recent changes affect the feel of the game, maybe I'll be able to sniff out some more bugs along the way. Hey, thanks for the kind words and the bug reports :) I'm glad you enjoyed the Kana event!

Onto the technical issues:

1.  The "#DEVCODE" thing is utterly inexplicable. It only appears if you load an old save that's in the Manor bedroom, and only once. Refresh the screen (my changing locations or clicking a dialogue option that sends you back to your room) and it's gone forever. There's nothing in the code to explain this, and I have zero idea why it's occurring. My current plan is to just leave it alone and see if it goes away of its own accord, haha.

2.  I added new Leads to the Kana questline and it borked some of the older code I'd put in place to prevent duplication bugs. It should be fixed for 0.21.7 but let me know if it crops up again! Questlines involving Lyx always seem to get messed up... I wonder why?

3. 0.21.7 or 0.21.8 will have an option in the preferences menu to set a personal speed for the timer (or make it instantaneous). There will also be a proper "clock" UI put in, probably in 0.21.8, so people with the top bar minimized won't feel like they're trapped on a black screen while the clock ticks up. I wish I'd had time to refine everything before release, but I'd already delayed too many times and I wanted to get the thing out!

easy, Lyx is becoming self aware. and yeah i had the same thing happen, did the quest twice (thank the lords for ctrl skip on the second go). and almost balled my eyes out both laughing at the mma style countdown, and to the unexpectedly wholesome scene with music

God that was amazing a very good ending to the storyline for Kana I was so satisfied with it Kana interacting with her mother and that was awesome, then her interaction with us and her daughter so adorable. I will say my only tiny gripe is that we don’t have the headpat option for Kana as of now, but that’s minor thing, but like I said amazing job I loved it and can’t wait for more.

Also can’t wait till we can really show Kana how much we missed her wink wink.

I can feel Pixie wanting to give me a horny bonk with a comically sized mallet right about now.

Haha, I will be sure to implement the headpat option for Kana and Lil' Kana as soon as possible! Can't let them go without their headpats, after everything they've been through!

Pixie is busy eating ice cream right now, but she'll be along with the horny-bonk hammer as soon as it runs out ;)
