ITCH DE-INDEXING (AND DELETING) NSFW GAMES

https://itch.io/updates/update-on-nsfw-content

Just a quick notice for people who have - or have not - heard about the sudden changes occurring on Itch. In short, Collective Shout (https://www.collectiveshout.org/) - a group who are absolutely as annoying as their name would suggest - have made themselves unpleasant to MasterCard and Visa and they, in turn, have put pressure on Itch.

The long and the short of it is that all adult games (and this includes games that involve adult themes such as psychological trauma, suicidal ideation and abuse) have been delisted, meaning that unless you know the name and/or URL of the game, you *cannot* find it in the Itch store any more. (This lack of discoverability obviously cripples developer income.)

As well as that, a number of games have been suspended or terminated by Itch already, with their pages no longer accessible and the files no longer able to be downloaded. Itch is using a combine harvester here instead of a scalpel.

What does this mean for Corrupted Kingdoms? The Itch announcement states that "creators must confirm that their content is allowable under the policies of the respective payment processors linked to their account". Given that Patreon already booted Corrupted Kingdoms (despite it being in the top 30 adult games and top 300 of *all* Patreon pages) because of payment processor demands, the future of CK on Itch is... not bright. I'll update everyone as and when I have more information on that.

I might hold an informal Discord stream tomorrow if people want to ask me questions about the changes, the reasons and the ramifications. If you'd like that, ping me in #general-chat chat to let me know.

Good luck to all the devs affected, and my heart goes out to each and every one of you! And to the players, who have had their games ripped away from them!

And finally, I'd like to issue a very rare, but well-deserved Fuck You to Collective Shout. You people need to find a better hobby.

I love you all (not you, Collective Shout).

I'm so sorry to hear this and I really hope you can keep your game up on itch but if you can't I hope you find somewhere new to put your game where you still can get financial support

Just an idea why don't you make an official site of your own for your game

(+1)

Good idea, but there's the question who host it, and the ensuing payment problem that start this debacle in first place. What folks need is to build payment infrastructure that neither visa, mastercard, nor activist can do anything about. There's option of using crypto, but I am ignorant where and how to start that.

(+3)

Another group of goobers coming in to ruin everyone's hard work and fun. I hope CK and every other game that's affected, to come out fine. :(

(+1)

Fucking gooberment and their having to fuck over adults using their money to pay for adult things. As long as what I am paying for doesn't do something completely disgusting (like child corn) I fail to see why I can't purchase corn games.

(1 edit)

Hey arc. I don't know if you are on the F95 website as well, but if not. They are still going as far as I know.

(+1)

CK's up there, but it's a pirate site - creators don't get any financial support from it (although the discovery and advertising is through the roof!) so it's not an alternative to Itch.

What donation avenue you accept? Anything outside of Visa and Mastercard control if possible.

I'm really only allowed to accept donations through SubStar, since places like KoFi won't let me in :/

Maybe I should finally do something with my Fansly creator page...

(+3)

this makes me livid. what makes these SJW the "police of the internet?"
and their "private equity firm" meaning they have found other likeminded morons who foolisly think if they throw their money at the problem its going to vanish?
what about DEVs and their families who rely on this income?

(+1)

Theyve gone after gta and detroit become human and steam more than once except this time they used payment processors...

Which we can do in return by also spamming payment processors in calls and emails like they did.

Unfortunately governments have also not helped as payment processors have been held accountable for processing payments for phub and others which have hosted.. very unsavory content to put it lightly or content that couldn't be verified and as such theyve been against anything with adult like content in general to avoid any issues.. I find it unlikely the payment processors themselves actually care though its plausible.

There is also a bill in the us thats for protecting our right to purchase anything that is legal which would in turn protect these games at least in the us.

Past that japan as sanctioned visa and have started pushing back, japan has for a long while been under attack by payment processors and well other countries in general for a variety of content including dating sites for otakus... delisting Manga and novels etc..

Imagine watching Shimoneta on 2015, thinking "Wow, this anime is just way too funny"... 10 years later, you see this bullshit on the news

(+1)

"You we're supposed to learn from the parody, not become it!"

(+2)

So I just checked and all my bookmarks of adults were gonna and couldn't find any games too... Thinking that it was a bug or website until I saw this post about collective bitch and moan remove games from the websites.

So what now ? Is itch io done with the whole adult games stuff and prepare to lose most of it's visitors or will they relisted it sometime later if people show their displeasure.

(+3)

At this point, nobody knows. The hope is that they re-list every piece of adult media (because it's not just games that were hit, it's the whole dang category) except for the much more hardcore stuff... but there's been no official word on that so we're all just sorta floundering in dark waters, here.

As soon as I have more information, I'll make a post about it. In the meantime, spread the word and the anger (in a respectful way), and hopefully Itch will take notice!

Right noted

https://chng.it/TY6kt9FwbD. Petition against visa/mastercard, just an extra avenue outside the sex work Petition

(1 edit) (+1)

I was thinking of jokingly mention the stop killing games movement. But that's around a different issue with gaming that wants to stay as focused as possible

Also, I was waiting for a bunch of updates before I start the game again. May be time to download

(+2)

We should get our own movement and get PirateSoftware to speak out against it. Did wonders for SKG! ;)

Definitely download anything you want to be sure to keep! When Itch deletes pages, all download links in your library for that page stop working.

already did

Wait hold on does this mean itch is permanently getting rid of NSFW content on there site or making it harder for content creators to upload their content? Please tell me it aint the first one!?

(+2)

it is not yet decided. If we fight back we may get thing back up but it will take some time.

(+1)

It's too early to tell, them trying to hide these pages from the site might be their own way of hiding these gems from mentally ill Karens

As other comments mentioned, nobody knows yet. We've had one announcement from Itch and a saluting emoji from one of Itch's co-founders and that's it.

They have already deleted some adult games, but whether or not we're all on the chopping block is still unknown :/

For all those in the USA instead of that ACLU petition, due to its phrasing and specifically referencing Sex Work there is no chance in Hell it's going to be picked up by our currently EXTREMELY conservative government, instead please Call, Email, or Write into your Congress and Senate delegates to support Fair Access to Banking Act, H.R.987!

The Fair Access to Banking Act, H.R.987 has already received bipartisan traction and is far more likely to succeed simply due to its phrasing and broader scope targeting bank and payment processor's control over ALL business!

(+2)

It is the importance of marketing. defend our financial rights is better then protect our porn

(+1)

Conservative or not doesnt matter when Europe is also passing bills and laws that restrict adult content in general and like the us pushing for id verification every single time..

so I dont think political side matters in reality here.. Secondly if you think either side of the political spectrum honestly care? We'll youre looney buddy.. they dont care they care about votes and barley doing anything they actually said.. theyre all guilty and part of who knows how many horrible things..

But yes the bill can help as can the aclu and change.org etc these can help.

As does doing what collective shout did, write emails and phone payment professors and find a way to get that to the top because that also matters.

Yeah it doesn't matter what your political beliefs are. This is just more control for the government to be used against every body. We need to boycott this site and steam and whoever else that is doing this to us.

I am literally a political science major they absolutely care, care about their image that is. Even if a conservative gets a ton of emails and calls from their constituents supporting the cause there's no way in Hell they're going to back something specifically mentioning sex work and porn. Meanwhile a progressive may be all for that and claim it empowers females, this has been said about OnlyFans workers by far left politicians.

Wording is very, very important as is what is included. It's why you see a lot of smaller items such as relief aid or education support tacked onto military or similar bills because then major supporters of the primary subject of the bill can then cry out loud that those who vote against it don't support the smaller tacked on subjects.

Politics is very much Hollywood. What you say and how you look is often far more important than what you actually do.

Saw this post by saikey and wanted to share it maybe it will help

OppaiMan the dev behind Freshwoman also has their own storefront and has accepted many refugees from Steam over the past couple of year.

(+5)

This is some bullsh*t!!  I absolutely love this game and now they might be taking it away just like the rest.. great.  Hopefully those idiots go away soon and it can all go back to normal

(1 edit) (+2)

They spoke out against detroit become human because of the portrayl of abuse. Ignoring that it wasn't exploitation but used to create empathy and establish the setting and plot. They're just removing ANYTHING with women or minors going through anything. Wouldn't be surprised if they go after the last of or Tomb raider

It's something that could actually affect games as an artform

They didn't go after the movie "Cuties" in fact they defended it openly, just proves that they don't really care what they preach about. They just want censorship in video games and things that makes us happy, hell they even went after Eminem and tried to bar him from performing once, claiming he had "Woman Hating lyrics" and incited violence against women.

Yes they did they openly defended it stating it was to supposed to make awareness of those things... by doing those things..

disgusting..

They dont care in reality its just about control.

(+1)

and unfortunately, they're going to start to get it. Honestly, sign the change.org petition, but that's no different from asking nicely. You want a petition to work. You have to do what ross scott did with SKG and make a petition from the governmental websites to try to get this discussed in parliament

(+5)

I can honestly say that this is a heartbreaking disaster. ITCH has always been one of my favorite sources for NSFW and SFW content. I still like itch, but they just arent going to be getting any of my buisness after this. I cant support a platform if they no longer support the product I want. I really hope to see you thriving somewhere else, Corrupted kingdoms does not deserve to sink with this burning ship!

Another site i use is f95zone

F95 is a pirate site. It's great for players, but creators get zero money from it. Without a platform to financially support their work, adult developers will stop creating, and F95 will become a desert :/

I remembered that shortly after posting. Not gonna help you financially.

When CCard companies are involved it's either bend or bust.
It's not the first time that specific duopoly exercises their service extortion like this on big websites, effects are both far more immediate and tacit than any equivalent government policy (which would be the legal pathway for such movements) could be.

(+4)

F*ck those sh#theads. Most of them profit through pornhub. And then support that Netflix Cuties nightmare. So it's okay having underage girls twerk in front of my screen but animated adults are a problem? F*cking hypocrites.

(+3)

More like collective sh#t. They need to be dismantled and disbanded I didn't give a collective sh#t about feminist groups before because I assumed if I stayed in my corner they wouldn't be able to hurt me, apparently I was wrong.

(+3)

Collective Shout is as much a “feminist” group as they “think of the children”. All they want to do is take away freedom of expression, especially from women, and they’ll wear any label or excuse, no matter how obviously bulls#it it is.

(+2)

Bruh.

(1 edit) (+1)

Let's just hope to god that they'll see this petition to stop this madness and save adult games

(+3)

Each day that passes by, we're getting closer and closer to shimoneta's world...

(+2)

Goddamn! Why can't they just leave the games I like in peace!?

May you tripped to death, Collective Shout.
